Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Omaha Storm Chasers took the lead over the Indianapolis Indians in the top of the fifth inning following a rain delay, but fell behind, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth before the game was again paused due to rain. The game was called due to rain and unplayable field conditions following a 38-minute delay, resulting in a 4-3 loss in five innings.
The game, which was originally delayed 25 minutes before first pitch, was delayed for 37 minutes in the bottom of the fourth and delayed once more after the end of the bottom of the fifth.
Omaha (38-23) scored the first run of the game in the second inning when centerfielder Kyle Isbel doubled and reached third base on a throwing error by Indianapolis (31-30) second baseman Ethan Paul before scoring on a double down the third base line by second baseman Jimmy Govern.
Left-hander Daniel Lynch held the Indians scoreless through the first three innings, striking out four and facing one over the minimum. He allowed one unearned run in the fourth when T.J. Rivera reached on an error and later scored on a double by Bligh Madris.
The game entered a rain delay two pitches later and was delayed for 37 minutes before right-hander Jace Vines (Loss, 4-3) struck out Hunter Owen to end the inning.
The Chasers took the lead in the fifth when shortstop Angelo Castellano lined a one-out double down the left-field line against right-hander Shelby Miller (Win, 1-0) and scored on an error by Paul. Third baseman Travis Jones, who walked after Castellano's double, moved to third on Paul's error and scored while left-fielder Anderson Miller was caught in a rundown between first and second after being picked off.
The Indians battled back in the bottom of the fifth with three runs on four hits. With Paul at first and Chris Sharpe at second with one out, Dee Strange-Gordon doubled off the right-field fence to make it a one-run game. Strange-Gordon and Paul each scored on an RBI single by T.J. Rivera to put Indianapolis in front, 4-3.
The game was sent into a rain delay following the final out of the bottom of the fifth and was delayed for 38 minutes before it was officially called.
The Storm Chasers continue their series against the Indianapolis Indians on Friday at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Ind., when right-hander Jackson Kowar (5-2, 2.25) faces Indianapolis right-hander Beau Sulser (4-2, 3.02). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT and coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. CT with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
