Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Tribe starting pitcher Mitch Keller has been named to the U.S. team roster for the 2018 All-Star Futures Game. The announcement was made by Major League Baseball today at noon. Infielder Ke'Bryan Hayes, currently with Double-A Altoona, was also named to the U.S. squad. The game will be played on Sunday, July 15 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Keller, 22, joined Indianapolis at the end of June after excelling with the Curve. He went 9-2 with a 2.72 ERA (26 ER/86.0 IP) and 76 strikeouts across 14 starts in Double-A. He ranked first among Eastern League leaders in wins, second in fewest baserunners allowed per 9.0 innings (10.05), third in innings pitched and fourth in ERA and batting average against (.208).
The right-hander has made two starts with the Tribe, most recently fanning 10 batters over six innings against Louisville in his Victory Field debut. The 10-K performance marked the fourth double-digit strikeout game of his career.
Keller was rated as Pittsburgh's No. 1 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline prior to the season. Baseball America also listed him as the No. 12 overall prospect in all of baseball, in addition to having the "Best Fastball," "Best Curveball" and "Best Control" among Pirates farmhands.
Keller is the seventh Tribe pitcher to be named to the U.S. or World team roster in the All-Star Futures Game since Indy became the Triple-A affiliate of the Pirates in 2005. Paul Maholm (U.S. - 2005), Josh Sharpless (U.S. - 2006), Bryan Morris (U.S. - 2010), Gerrit Cole (U.S. - 2012), Jameson Taillon (U.S. - 2012) and Dovydas Neverauskas (World - 2016) are the others.
