Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The IronPigs walked off at home for the second straight ball game with a 7-6 victory against the Red Wings. A RBI single by Matt McBride plated a pair of runs to lift the Pigs over the Red Wings in the 10th.

The Pigs used the long ball to pace the offense against the Red Wings. They got on the scoreboard in bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run by Collin Cowgill deep into the bullpen. For the second time in his professional career, Cowgill has homered in three straight games.

Lehigh Valley scored a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Plouffe and an error to tie the game at five in the fifth against starter Kohl Stewart. Danny Ortiz for the first time in 105 at-bats and since May 31st homered to right-field to break the tie and put the Pigs up 6-5.

Cole Irvin left his third straight start in line for the win after the Pigs took back the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Irvin went five-innings; he allowed eight hits, and four runs, three earned. Irvin heads into the IL All-Star game with an 8-3 record and a 2.89.

The Red Wings left the yard twice in the game against Irvin with a pair of solo home runs by Gregorio Petit and Nick Gordon.

Jake Thompson took over for Irvin in the sixth and allowed a two out RBI single to tie the game in the sixth. Thompson finished the outing with four strike outs in two innings of relief. Thompson, Hector Neris and Pedro Beato (4-2) retired the final 10 batters and did not allow a base runner in the final three frames heading into extras.

The Red Wings took the lead in the top of the tenth inning on a sacrifice fly by Gregorio Petit to take the 6-5 lead in extras against Beato. In the bottom of the inning, with the bases loaded and one out, Matt McBride singled to third base to tie the game against Alan Busentiz (2-1), trying to cut down the tying run, Leonardo Reginatto tossed the ball to the back stop that allowed Mitch Walding to come home and win the game.

The Pigs and Red Wings resume their three game set tomorrow night at 6:35. It is Harry Potter Night presented by PA Lottery at Coca-Cola Park with post-game fireworks and the first 3,000 fans will receive a Harry Potter themed cap compliments of Coca-Cola.
