Toledo Mud Hens News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jason Krizan and Grayson Greiner belted back-to-back home runs in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Toledo Mud Hens to a 3-2 victory over the Louisville Bats on Friday at Louisville Slugger Field.
Despite missing all four of their Triple-A All-Star Game representatives, the Mud Hens (48-38) bounced back from a pair of one-run losses in Columbus to knock off Louisville (34-49) in the series opener. The result keeps the Mud Hens 1.5 games clear of Indianapolis atop the West Division standings.
Krizan finished 1-for-4 with a two-run blast, while Greiner went 1-for-4 with what proved to be the game-winning solo home run. Dawel Lugo reached base twice, going 1-for-3 with a single, a walk, and a run scored.
A.J. Ladwig started on the mound for the Mud Hens, tossing five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out a pair. Warwick Saupold was credited with the win after pitching three scoreless innings out of the Hen Pen, before Zac Houston hurled a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save of the campaign.
Louisville used one swing of the bat to break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third. Josh VanMeter led off the inning with a base hit into shallow right, and eventually scored when Phillip Ervin hit a fly ball to deep left that carried over the wall as the hosts seized a 2-0 advantage.
The Bats looked to add to their lead in the fourth frame, as D.J. Peterson whacked a one-out triple off the top of the wall in left-center. Hernan Iribarren followed with a walk to put runners on the corners, but the threat was washed out when Stuart Turner grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to retire the side.
The Mud Hens were limited to two baserunners in the first six innings, but turned the tables with a three-spot in the top of the seventh. After Lugo reached base on a leadoff walk, Krizan brought him home with a two-run shot into deep right to even the score at 2-2. Toledo grabbed the lead one batter later, as Greiner blasted a 418-foot solo shot to left to make it a 3-2 ballgame, which held on to be the final tally.
