Trenton Walks Off With 1-0 Win Over Altoona

(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton Right fielder James Cooper had the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the tenth inning, as Trenton defeated Altoona 1-0 in ten innings on Thursday afternoon at Waterfront Park. Trenton earned a split in the four-game series, and is now 5-3 in extra-inning games this season.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the tenth inning, Thunder Catcher Joe Muich connected on a single against Altoona reliever Ronald Belisario (4-2) with two outs. Thunder Right fielder James Cooper followed with an RBI double down the left field line scoring Muich all the way from first base with the winning run. The walk-off win was Trenton's first since Friday July 11th against Binghamton. Thunder reliever Oneli Perez (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings. Perez has tossed eight straight scoreless innings for the Thunder over his last five outings.

Thunder Starting pitcher George Kontos had a tough luck no-decision. He allowed only one hit in a season-high eight innings of work. He only allowed two base runners. He struck out a career-high 13 batters, and only walked one. His 13 strikeouts is the most in a single game by a Thunder pitcher this season. The 13 strikeouts is one off the Thunder franchise record for an individual game. Shannon Withem struck out 14 batters on 8/14/94. Altoona Starting pitcher Josh Hill also received a no-decision. He tossed six shutout innings and scattered four hits. Muich and Thunder First baseman Cody Ehlers each had two hits in the victory. This was Trenton's second game this season in which they held the opposition to one hit (@ Harrisburg June 17th).

Trenton starts a six-day seven-game road trip on Friday night against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, from Hadlock Field in Portland, ME. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. RHP Jason Jones (10-5, 3.03) will start for Trenton against Portland LHP Kris Johnson (7-5, 3.60).
