New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - ESPN - our internationally-known neighbor - leaned over the fence the other day to tell us that they will soon be embarking on a new overnight, live edition of their iconic SportsCenter program, called "SportCenter AM". This new programming will be broadcast live from approximately 12 Midnight to 4:00 AM every night and will offer viewers continuous, live updates of important sporting events, rather than re-runs of the previous evening's final SportCenter program. Sounds like a great idea.
To promote the new programming with the viewing public, ESPN has selected one of their own employees - Steve Bradband - to do a series of live, 30-second commercials that are rapidly becoming widely discussed and anticipated. The young Mr. Bradband will soon be appearing 20-30 times per day doing a variety of off-beat promos, and it is clear that he is enjoying himself. We, the viewers, are picking up on his natural enthusiasm and "Everyman" persona - and are enjoying this stuff almost as much as him.
On Friday night, Steve will be coming to New Britain Stadium to shoot another round of live, 30-second commercials that will be aired, at a minimum, all across America. Steve will throw out a ceremonial First Pitch, perhaps hang for a short period in the Rock Cats' bullpen, impersonate New Britain's own icon - mascot, "Rocky" - and/or serve as a vendor at one of the Stadium's busy concession stands. Much like politicians in Washington dealing with matters of war and peace - or their counterparts in Hartford or Springfield dealing with budget deficits - "All options are on the Table"!
On Friday night, New Britain, CT will be seen live on the television sets of American sports fans from Seattle to Key West - from Bar Harbor to Baja - and all points in between. To paraphrase - "Is this a great country, or what?"
