New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Chris Gutierrez lined a two-run single to highlight a six-run second inning for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, but a standing-room-only crowd of 6,642 saw the Portland Sea Dogs rally back for a 13-6 victory in the final Merchantsauto.com Stadium meeting of the year between the two teams.

Portland (59-49) put up five runs in the top of the first inning against losing pitcher Kenny Rodriguez. Zach Daeges (4-for-5, 2B, BB, 4 RBI, 2 R) hit a run-scoring single, Lars Anderson (3-for-4, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R) drew a bases-loaded walk, Josh Reddick (1-for-4, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R) had a run-scoring ground out and Argenis Diaz (1-for-4, 2 RBI, R) drove in a pair of runs with a single, giving the Sea Dogs a 5-0 lead.

New Hampshire (46-66) rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning against Dave Gassner. Jacob Butler (1-for-4, 2B, R) hit what was initially ruled a home run but later changed to a double. Butler scored on a single by Erik Kratz (2-for-3, 2B, HBP, RBI, R). Following walks to Andrew Pinckney (2-for-3, BB, R) and Ryan Klosterman (0-for-3, BB, R), Gutierrez (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) singled to right, cutting the deficit to 5-3. One out later, Travis Snider (1-for-4, BB, RBI, R) added a run-scoring single, and J.P. Arencibia (1-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R) hit a two-run double to the wall in left-centerfield, giving the Fisher Cats a short-lived 6-5 lead.

The Sea Dogs reclaimed the lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Bryan Pritz (2-for-5, 2B, BB, RBI, R) and Daeges' two-run single for an 8-6 lead.

Rodriguez (1-3) was lifted at that point after allowing eight runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings. The right-hander walked six and fanned two.

Gassner (4-5) recovered from his disastrous second inning to earn the victory. The left-hander went five innings, yielding six runs on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Portland scored three more times in the fifth inning against Jo Matumoto. Jorge Jimenez (3-for-6, 2 R, RBI) drove in a run with a single, John Otness (2-for-5, SF, RBI, R) added a sacrifice fly and Anderson singled, giving the Sea Dogs a commanding 11-6 lead.

Facing Orlando Roman, Portland added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Reddick, and the Sea Dogs capped the scoring against Roman when Daeges drove in his fourth run of the game on an eighth-inning single.

The Fisher Cats open a three-game weekend series against the Connecticut Defenders at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. On Friday night, right-hander Jean Machi (0-4, 5.15) makes his first start since April 24 for New Hampshire when he opposes Connecticut left-hander Ben Snyder (1-2, 8.33) in a 7:05pm game.
