Carpenter Stifles Senators In 7-2 Loss

arrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators were shut down by Reading Phillies RHP Andrew Carpenter in a 7-2 loss Thursday afternoon at Commerce Bank Park. Harrisburg mustered five hits, including a solo home run by Jemel Spearman.

The Phillies came flying out of the gate as Michael Spidale hit a solo homer in the 1st. Luke Appert's RBI fielder's choice in the 2nd made it 2-0. Neil Sellers drilled a two-out, two-run homer in the 3rd to extend it to 4-0.

Harrisburg finally scored in the bottom of the 5th against Carpenter. Marvin Lowrance drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a single. He scored when Seth Bynum hit a fielder's choice ground ball to cut it to 4-1.

In the 7th, Spearman hammered a solo homer to left to shave the deficit to 4-2.

The Phillies came right back in the top of the 8th as Brad Harman belted RHP Carlos Martinez's first pitch out of the park to left to make it a 5-2 game. Reading tacked on more in the top of the 9th as Martinez walked a pair of R-Phils and they both came around to score on a two-run triple by Spidale to balloon the lead to 7-2.

Brownlie took his first loss of the season with the Senators, falling to 8-1. Carpenter notched the win in his return from Advanced-A Clearwater, allowing two runs (one earned) in seven innings to move to 3-7. LHP Sergio Escalona fired two scoreless innings to notch his first career Double-A save.

The Senators dropped to 61-50. Reading is now 47-64.

The Senators travel to Akron to take on the Aeros in a three-game series beginning Friday at 7:05 PM. RHP Adrian Alaniz (0-3, 3.98 ERA) goes to the mound for Harrisburg against Aeros RHP Steven Wright (2-1, 4.95 ERA).
