Connecticut Defenders News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY- It was a pivotal contest between the Defenders and Mets on Thursday night but Connecticut failed to take heed. Dave McKae was touched up in his start as Binghamton trounced the Defs, 9-3.

The Mets struck the scoreboard first in the second inning as Shawn Bowman lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Ambiorix Concepcion. The situational hit made it 1-0, Mets.

After a scoreless third, Binghamton revved their scoring engines in the fourth. Twelve Mets hit in the frame as eight runs scored on seven hits and two costly errors. Through four, the Mets had the game well in hand with a 9-0 lead.

On the other side of the bump stood Tobi Stoner. Through six innings, Stoner would allow three base runners as Connecticut singled twice and walked once. In the seventh, the Defs finally figured a way to get a run across. Antoan Richardson drew a lead-off walk and two batters later, Carlos Sosa ripped a two-run homer over the right field wall to make it 9-2.

Richardson added a long ball of his own in the top half of the ninth to close the gap to a more respectable, 9-3.

Stoner picked up his third win of the 2008 campaign and Dave McKae dropped to 6-6 as the righty gave up nine runs (five earned) on nine hits in three and a third innings.

The Defenders will travel to New Hampshire to play a three-game set over the weekend with the Fisher Cats. Friday night's contest will begin at 7:05pm and can be heard locally on the Defenders' Radio Network or anywhere in the world at ctdefenders.com.
