'Wolves Fall In Series Finale

The SeaWolves could not complete a series win over the Akron Aeros as they fell by a score of 4-1 on Thursday night at Canal Park.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Akron starter Frank Herrmann. With two outs in the inning, Wilkin Ramirez stepped in and clubbed his 15th home run of the season to put the ‘Wolves ahead 1-0. It would be the only run Herrmann gave up in the game as he tossed the next five scoreless en route to his ninth win of the season.

Akron would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning against Erie starter Luke French. Stephen Head led off with a single and Matt Whitney was hit by a pitch to put a pair on with no outs. Ryan Goleski singled to center and the ball got passed centerfielder Casper Wells. The error allowed two runs to score and Goleski to reach third, giving Akron a 2-1 lead. Goleski scored on a Brandon Pinckney groundout to take a 3-1 lead.

Akron extended their lead to three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Josh Rodriguez led off with a double and he would score on a two-out single by Wyatt Toregas to put the Aeros ahead 4-1.

French was the tough luck loser for the ‘Wolves as he fell to 5-11 on the season. He went seven solid innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

The Aeros pitching staff, Herrmann, Tony Sipp and Reid Santos allowed just one Erie hit over the final four innings of the game. Santos picked up his first save of the season retiring the final six batters of the game in order, striking out five.

In the game, Santo De Leon extended his hitting streak to eight straight games with a single in the second inning.
