'Dogs finish 5-2 on the roadtrip with win

(Manchester, NH) - The Portland Sea Dogs (59-49) scored the game's final eight runs to beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (46-66), 12-6, Thursday night in the series finale at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The Sea Dogs manage a split of their 4-game series with New Hampshire and finish the roadtrip at 5-2 (swept three in Trenton).

Portland starter Dave Gassner (4-5) allowed all six runs in the second inning but managed his third straight win and the second on the trip. Kenny Rodriguez (1-3) lasted only 2.2 IP, surrendering eight runs on seven hits, six walks and two strikeouts to take the loss for the Fisher Cats.

Zach Daeges finished out a career roadtrip by going 4-for-5, 4 RBI and reaching base five times. Daeges went 12-for-28 (.429), HR, 13 RBI on the 7-day trip and has three 4-RBI games in his last five starts.

The Sea Dogs started game four of the series by scoring five times off Rodriguez in the first. Daeges knocked in the game's first run with an RBI single, scoring Jorge Jimenez. Aaron Bates walked and John Otness singled to load the bases. Lars Anderson (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 BB) drew a bases-loaded walk, Josh Reddick had a run-scoring groundout and Argenis Diaz smacked a 2-run single.

Portland had a hit and a run scored from all nine starters with 7 of 9 in the lineup picking up at least one RBI.

New Hampshire took their only lead in the second inning with six runs on five hits off Gassner (5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, SO). Erik Kratz knocked in the ‘Cats first run with an RBI single, scoring Jacob Butler. Chris Gutierrez smacked a 2-run single, cutting the deficit to 6-3. With one out, Ryan Patterson popped out, Travis Snider laced an RBI single and J.P. Arencibia produced a 2-run double. The Sea Dogs responded with a 3-spot in third inning to grab an 8-6 lead. Bryan Pritz had an RBI single and Daeges gave Portland the lead for good with a 2-run single.

In the fifth inning, Portland scored three runs off reliever Jo Matumoto. Pritz started the rally with a double and scored on Jimenez's RBI single. Daeges doubled and Aaron Bates was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Anderson lifted a sacrifice fly for his 3rd RBI of the series. The Sea Dogs added a run in the seventh and eighth frames on run-scoring singles by Daeges and Reddick.

Mike James fired three scoreless innings of relief for Portland on one hit, two walks and three strikeouts. Miguel Asencio finished off the game with a scoreless ninth.

Portland finishes 7-7 this season at Merchantsauto.com Stadium and evened their season series with New Hampshire at 12 games a piece.

On Friday night the Sea Dogs and Thunder open up a 4-game series in three days at Hadlock Field. LHP Kris Johnson (7-5, 3.60) faces RHP Jason Jones (10-5, 3.03).
