Trenton, NJ)- Trenton Catcher Kyle Anson had three hits, including a three-run double, to lift Trenton to a 10-5 win over Altoona on Friday night from Waterfront Park.
Altoona (15-32) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Altoona First baseman Jamie Romak hit a two-run home run, and the next hitter Catcher Miguel Perez followed with a solo home run. Down 3-0, Trenton (23-22) scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game. With two outs in the frame, the Thunder connected on five straight singles off of Altoona Starting Pitcher Mike Crotta to tie the game. With Catcher Kyle Anson at second base and Second baseman Justin Snyder at first base, Left fielder James Cooper singled home Anson to cut the Altoona lead to 3-1. Shortstop Eduardo Nunez followed with an infield single to load the bases. Center fielder Colin Curtis then drilled a two-run single to tie the game.
The Thunder scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead. Trenton loaded the bases with one out against Crotta. Catcher Kyle Anson followed with a bases-clearing three-run double off of Altoona Reliever Moises Robles to put Trenton on top 6-3. Anson finished the game 3 x 3 with two doubles, three runs, two walks, and three RBI. Snyder capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI double. The Thunder tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead. Third baseman Chris Malec drove in a run with an RBI groundout. In the eighth inning, the Thunder tacked on two insurance runs. Thunder Outfielder James Cooper connected on a two-run single to extend Trenton's lead to 10-5. Cooper went 2 x 4 in the win with two runs, and two RBI. Snyder and Curtis also had two hits in the win.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Wilkin De La Rosa (2-2) yielded five hits and four runs over 5 2/3 innings for the win. He struck out three and walked three. De La Rosa allowed three home runs in the win. The three home runs are the most allowed by a Thunder pitcher in a game this season. Crotta (3-2) allowed seven hits and six runs over 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. Thunder Reliever Amaury Sanit tossed 1 2/3 hitless innings for his fifth save in five chances for the Thunder.
Trenton and Altoona play the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday night from Waterfront Park. RHP Christian Garcia (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Thunder against Altoona LHP Daniel Moskos (2-4, 4.53). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
