New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced a roster transaction late this afternoon that caused their 2008 Player of the Year, INF Steve Tolleson, to be advanced to Triple-A Rochester in the International League.
The 25-year-old University of South Carolina product was drafted by New Britain's parent club - the Minnesota Twins - in the 5th Round of the 2005 Draft. The 5'10/170-pound Infielder was named to the 2008 Eastern League All-Star squad and finished last season with a .300 Batting Average. In 38 games for the 2009 Rock Cats, the versatile Tolleson batted .258 (39/151) with 14 Extra Base Hits and 13 RBI.
The son of former Major Leaguer Wayne Tolleson, Steve will join Rochester in time for the Red Wings' scheduled game against Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania tomorrow night. Now in his fifth year of professional baseball, this will be his first taste of baseball at the Triple-A level.
