Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Ryan Coultas set a career-high with eight scoreless innings and the B-Mets pounded out 12 hits behind him to shutout the Rock Cats in front of a sellout crowd of 6,177 at New Britain Stadium. D.J. Wabick continued his hot month of May with two doubles scoring runs after each.
Jeff Manship, who had fired eight innings at NYSEG Stadium against Binghamton (21-24) May 24 allowing just a run, looked fine after an inning. However, the B-Mets would get to him in the second as Shawn Bowman tripled to right-center to open the frame. Wabick followed with a double to the same place scoring Bowman. After Carl Loadenthal reached on a bunt single, Ruben Tejada would bring home Wabick with a groundout. The scoring would conclude in the second when Emmanuel Garcia lined a single to left to score Loadenthal to make the score 3-0.
Coultas and Manship dueled each other from there. Manship retired nine in a row until loading the bases in the fifth, a jam he would skirt by striking out Bowman. Manship gave the Rock Cats seven innings of three-run ball, but took the loss. Coultas had a string of 13 in a row retired at one point covering the middle three innings of the game. He ended the night with eight scoreless innings facing four over the minimum for his fourth win.
New Britain (23-24) allowed the B-Mets to scratch across three more runs in the eighth inning off relievers' Jose Lugo and Antony Slama. Ruben Tejada notched an infield-RBI single and Garcia brought in two with a single to left to cap the scoring at six.
Josh Thole picked up his second three-hit day of the year going 3-4, all singles, and Garcia went 2-5 with 3 RBIs.
The roadtrip continues tomorrow night with the middle game of the three-game set with New Britain. RHP Dylan Owen (0-4, 6.55 ERA) will go for the B-Mets and New Britain will counter with RHP Jay Rainville (1-2, 4.79 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 6:35 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
