Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Third baseman Jared Goedert blasted solo home runs in each of his first two at-bats, while designated hitter Jeff Larish launched a three-run shot and catcher Tony Sanchez added a two-run longball to lead the Indianapolis Indians (35-18) to a 7-2 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox (31-21) on Tuesday night at Victory Field. The win was also the 200th for Dean Treanor since taking over as manager of the Indians.

After failing to record an extra-base hit for the first time in 26 games in last night's defeat, the Indianapolis Indians offense came alive with a season-high four home runs on Tuesday night.

The Tribe began the power surge with four scores in the bottom of the second. Goedert got things going in a hurry as he led off the bottom of the frame with a mammoth solo shot to left. Goedert's goner was his sixth of the season and was just the start of the longball fireworks for the Tribe.

Following Goedert, RF Jerry Sands and C Tony Sanchez came through with back-to-back base hits to set the stage for Larish. The Tribe designated hitter, who just last night collected his first base knock of the season, left little doubt as he deposited the third pitch of his at-bat over the left field fence to extend the Indians' advantage to 4-0. The homer was the first of the season for Larish and his first since he connected on a three-run blast for the Indians on August 29 against Toledo last season.

Pawtucket cut the Tribe's lead in half in the top of the following frame as they took advantage of some control problems by Indians' starter Andy Oliver (3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 2 SO). Former Indians' INF Brock Holt along with 2B Jonathan Diaz and CF Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the frame with back-to-back-to-back walks, before C Ryan Lavarnway brought home a score with an RBI groundout. DH Bryce Brentz followed with a line drive base hit to center to plate another PawSox score and cut the Tribe advantage to 4-2.

Goedert quickly got a run back for the Indians as he launched his second solo shot of the game with one out in the bottom of the third for his seventh longball of the season. With the blast, Goedert joins OF Brett Carroll as the only Tribe batters with multiple homers in game this season and became the first Indians batter with home runs in his first two at-bats since INF Jeff Clement on May 28, 2012.

Goedert was not finished, however, as he looked to become the first Indianapolis slugger to smash three homers since Micah Franklin on September 1, 2001. The Tribe third baseman flew out to the warning track in right to lead off the bottom of the sixth and then came oh so close to making history as he crushed a ball to deep right-center field to lead-off the bottom of the eighth that hit off the wall in the deepest part of the park for a long double.

Despite failing to collect his third roundtripper, Goedert did established a new Tribe season high with 10 total bases, the most since Jeff Clement also had 10 on July 4, 2012.

Sanchez then capped the night with a bang for the Tribe as he brought home Goedert with a two-run opposite field homer later in the ninth.

Overshadowed by the offensive fireworks was two dominating performances out of the Indianapolis bullpen as Tribe relievers Ryan Reid (3.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 SO) and Erik Cordier (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) combined for 5.2 scoreless innings of relief. Reid tossed a season-high 3.2 scoreless to earn his team leading fifth win of the season, while Cordier allowed just one hit over 2.0 frames to notch his first save.

Pawtucket starter Terry Doyle (6.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) suffered the loss to fall to 3-5 on the season after allowing five runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings pitched.

The Indians and PawSox now continue their series on Wednesday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. RHP Brandon Cumpton (4-2, 2.91) looks for his fifth win of the season when he takes the mound for Indianapolis, while RHP Graham Godfrey (3-3, 3.86) is expected to make the start for Pawtucket.

The contest will be televised on HTSN, Hometown Sports and News, available via cable or over-the-air on digital channel 6.2. The game will also be carried on WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones with Howard Kellman and Will Flemming on the call. The pre-game show begins at 1:15 p.m.

Post-game quotes -- Manager Dean Treanor

(on earning his 200th win as Indians' manager tonight)

"I had no idea until you told me when the game was over. Obviously it's some kind of a milestone, and it feels good, but all of the credit goes to these guys. I think people that come out here see how this team plays and how these guys plays and tonight's just a good example of it."

(on adapting to different teams each year)

"We are starting to swing the bats well. I think the weather warming up has helped because you know it's very difficult to hit in cold weather. But it still comes down to pitching, our pitching has carried us this far and it's going to have to carry us. You know where lost a few guys to injury and some have gone up and it just seems like every one has stepped up. Erik Cordier has done a great job for us, bridging that gap, and Ryan Reid, you can't say enough about that guy; He's the wild card, and we're not going to get that win without him and I'm very glad he got the win tonight."
