Norfolk Tides News Release

Norfolk used a solid outing from Jake Arrieta and an early offensive outburst to knock off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5-2 Wednesday night at Harbor Park.

In his first start in over three weeks, Arrieta (3-2) allowed just one hit in five strong innings to help the Tides pick up their second straight victory. Arrieta walked two and struck out two, allowing just a third inning single to second baseman Corban Joseph. The 27-year-old right-hander, who threw 48 of his 80 pitches for strikes, had pitched just one inning of relief since making a start at Buffalo on May 7.

Chris Jones, Manny Delcarmen and Jairo Asencio followed Arrieta in relief, with Asencio working a perfect ninth inning to register his 12th save of the season.

Norfolk jumped out to a quick lead against RailRiders starter Kelvin Perez (0-3), as Jason Pridie lined the first pitch of the game for a double and came around to score two batters later on a single by Buck Britton. One inning later, RBI doubles by Trayvon Robinson and Pridie extended Norfolk's lead to 3-0.

Pridie, who was activated from the disabled list Tuesday after missing 13 games with a strained groin, has now hit safely in nine consecutive games. Over that span, he's batted .436 (17-for-39) with three home runs, 11 runs scored and eight RBI.

Robinson, Zelous Wheeler and Brandon Wood each had two hits apiece in the win, as Norfolk improved to 17-4 over its last 21 games at Harbor Park.

The Tides will look to wrap up the series win on Thursday night in a 6:35 contest at Harbor Park. Zach Britton (2-1, 3.61) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Caleb Cotham (0-3, 11.34).
