G-Braves Slug Way to Seventh-Straight Win

SYRACUSE, NY - The Gwinnett Braves (24-30) set season highs in runs scored (10) and hits (18) on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium as they extended their season-best winning streak to seven games with a 10-1 rout of the Syracuse Chiefs (22-30). Ernesto Mejia went 2-for-3 with his International League-leading 14th home run and three RBI, and Joey Terdoslavich added three more RBI on 3-for-5 hitting for the red-hot G-Braves.

Gwinnett matched their season high for runs in an inning with five in the second, erasing what had been a brief 1-0 Syracuse lead. Brandon Boggs started the frame with a leadoff home run to right field on a 3-2 pitch from Chiefs' starter Danny Rosenbaum. A walk drawn by Joe Leonard and singles by Matt Pagnozzi and Paul Janish loaded the bases. Pitcher Yohan Flande reached on a fielding error by Syracuse second baseman Will Rhymes, allowing Leonard to score. The G-Braves then added to the 2-1 lead with an RBI single from Todd Cunningham, bases-loaded walk from Terdoslavich and sacrifice fly from Mejia.

Rosenbaum (L, 5-3) faced nine batters in the second inning alone, exiting with a 5-1 deficit. The left-hander yielded five runs, three earned, on six hits over 1.2 innings.

Jeremy Accardo replaced Rosenbaum and was solid for a time, stranding a pair of inherited runners in the second inning and keeping the G-Braves off the board in the third inning. But in the fourth inning, the Syracuse reliever ran into serious trouble.

Singles by Cunningham and Pastornicky greeted Accardo in the fourth, and Terdoslavich doubled to left field to score them both. Mejia followed with a home run to center - his third in the last four games - to raise the lead to 9-1. A bases-loaded walk to Cunningham later in the inning increased Gwinnett's lead to 10-1. Accardo finished with five runs allowed over 2.0 innings.

Gwinnett's offensive barrage ceased after the fourth inning, but the nine-run lead was plenty for Flande (W, 3-4). The left-hander cruised through 7.0 innings, limiting the Chiefs to a run on two hits while walking one and striking out four. The only damage against him came on Chris Marrero's RBI double in the first inning.

Juan Cedeno added 2.0 scoreless, no-hit innings and two strikeouts for the G-Braves. Meanwhile, Syracuse relievers Jeff Mandel and Xavier Cedeno combined on 5.1 scoreless innings following Rosenbaum and Accardo.

Every Gwinnett starter - including Flande (1-for-4, RBI) - had a hit on the night as the club matched their largest winning margin of the season. In addition to the multi-hit, multi-RBI games posted by Mejia and Terdoslavich, Cunningham also finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. The G-Braves have won seven-straight games for the first time since June 4-10, 2011.

Marrero led the way for Syracuse, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Gwinnett Braves conclude the four-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs at NBT Bank Stadium on Thursday night, first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Left-hander Sean Gilmartin (3-3, 4.06) will start for the G-Braves, while the Chiefs counter with right-hander Ross Ohlendorf (3-5, 4.83).
