Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Gwinnett Stripers' right-hander Touki Toussaint moved to 5-0 on the season Tuesday with a 5-2 win over the Norfolk Tides at Coolray Field.

Toussaint pitched 6.0 innings with one unearned run on three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. He lowered his earned run average to 1.43 in eight starts with the Stripers, notching his sixth quality start in the process. He also dropped his Braves' organization-best ERA to 2.38 between Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi. He extended his streak without allowing an earned run to 18.2 innings to boot.

The lone run against Toussaint came across in the second inning after Garabez Rosa hit a one-out double. Drew Dosch hit a soft grounder to shortstop Luis Marte, who threw in the dirt and allowed Rosa to score on the error. Ruben Tejada then grounded into a double play, making the run unearned. Toussaint didn't allow another hit after Dosch's infield single.

The Stripers' offense took care of business early against Tides' lefty Luis Ysla, grabbing a run in the first and three more in the second.

Marte started the first with a single and came around to score on a Dustin Peterson RBI single. The following inning, Ryan Flaherty led off with a double and Alex Jackson was hit by a pitch. Lane Adams doubled to drive in Flaherty and put two in scoring position. After a Marte pop-out, Michael Reed blooped a single to right driving in two runs for a 4-1 lead. Gwinnett's fifth run came on a wild pitch by Ysla in the fourth.

Shane Carle, making his first rehab appearance for the Atlanta Braves, pitched a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout. Kyle Wright worked a scoreless eighth with a strikeout. Jacob Webb allowed an RBI single to Rosa in the ninth to make it 5-2, but he struck out Armando Araiza to end the game.

Ysla (L, 0-3) gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.0 innings, striking out five. Jhan Marinez, Ryan O'Rourke, Fernando Jimenez and Tim Melville combined to throw 4.0 scoreless innings.

Peterson reached base in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Flaherty was 2-for-4 with a double and a run in his first home game with the Stripers.

Mike Yastrzemski was 2-for-2 with two walks for the Tides. Rosa went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored.

Gwinnett (66-67) looks to get back to .500 on Wednesday against the Tides (68-65) at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Kolby Allard (6-4, 2.72) gets the start for the Stripers, while Norfolk's starter has yet to be announced. Dave Lezotte will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 and 93.5 FM "The Other Side of the River" beginning at 6:35 p.m.
