Tourists Win 7-3 to Split WV Series

(Charleston, WV) Asheville escaped West Virginia with a series split winning the final game 7-3 on Thursday night from Appalachian Power Ballpark .Jonathan Aristil went five innings to earn his third win of the season as the Tourists (58-62, 32-19) came away with the final two games after dropping the first two. Scott Robinson had three hits and David Christensen had two RBI singles in a 13 hit output for Asheville. The win keeps Asheville at least a half game up in first place pending on the second game of a doubleheader in Augusta.

West Virginia scored first off Aristil with an RBI single form Kyle Morgan. Aristil then took over and would not allow another hit until the sixth inning. Aristil (3-8) tossed five innings with six strikeouts and two walks in the win before being lifted with none out in the sixth.

Asheville tied the game in the third inning with the first of two RBI hits from David Christensen. The Tourists then took a 5-1 lead with a four-run fifth inning. Patrick Rose began the fifth by reaching on one of five errors by West Virginia in the game. Robinson then singled and Christensen brought in both runners with a single and an error on the leftfielder. Jordan Pacheco followed with an RBI hit of his own.

The Power got two off Aristil in the sixth inning to make it a 5-3 contest. Aristil left with two runners on with none out for Michael Marbry. Tony Sanchez drove in the runner from third base with a sacrifice flay and Kyle Morgan then singled in Starling Marte whom Aristil had walked.

Marbry tossed two scoreless innings and picked up five ground ball outs. Rex Brothers and Adam Jorgenson finished the game with an inning each for Asheville to pick up the series split. The Tourists will travel to Hickory to play the Crawdads at 7:05 on Friday.
