Asheville Tourists News Release

The Asheville Tourists fell to the Rome Braves on Friday night 4-2 in front of 4,367 fans at McCormick Field. The T's continued to struggle at the plate as they managed only four hits on the night. Three of Rome's four runs were unearned and Asheville has now dropped four in a row for the second time this season.

Two of the Tourists four hits came in the first inning. Brian Humphries led off the frame with a double and he scored on Tyler Massey's two-out single to center.

The game remained 1-0 until the fifth inning. Alex Gillingham, who worked out of trouble in several innings, saw Brandon Drury reach on an error to start the fifth. The Braves loaded the bases with one out but Gillingham struck out Kyle Kubitza for the second out. The next batter, Robby Hefflinger, came through for the visitors by doubling off the wall and plating all three runners.

Rome added one more in the seventh on Tony Mueller's RBI double to right-center. Asheville answered with a sacrifice fly by Chandler Laurent in the bottom of the seventh to make it 4-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Tourists put two on with no outs, but they were unable to do any damage against Rome's closer John Cornley. Jarrett Miller took the win for Rome by going six strong innings.

The number of fans in attendance was the 10th highest home crowd since 1992, when McCormick Field was renovated.
