Charleston RiverDogs News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - Garin Cecchini went 2-5 with a triple and two runs scored to pace the Greenville Drive to a 7-3 win over the Charleston RiverDogs on Friday night at Fluor Field at the West End. The Drive are now 2-0 in the second half, while Charleston sits at 0-2 in the South Atlantic League standings.
Greenville scored a run in each of the first four innings to take an early 4-0 lead that they would never relinquish. The RiverDogs got the tying runs on base in the fifth with the bases loaded in a 4-1 game, but Reymond Nunez struck out to end the inning and eliminate the threat.
Every Charleston player in the lineup had at least one hit in the loss except Francisco Arcia who contributed with an RBI groundout. Tyler Austin had a good game going 2-5 with two RBI's, his team leading 53rd and 54th of the year. Nunez was solid also turning in a 3-5 with a double performance.
Drive starter Jason Garcia made his third start of the year against the RiverDogs and improved to 2-1 in those games with the win, 2-4 overall. He limited Charleston to only one run on six hits, a walk, and two strikeouts in five innings. RiverDogs starter Wilton Rodriguez picked up the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year. Greenville scored four runs on seven hits off the righty.
Fred Lewis and Dan Mahoney each threw two innings of relief for Charleston allowing a combined three runs on six hits and five strikeouts. Righty Yeiper Castillo pitched the final four innings for the Drive and worked out of a ton of jams to earn his second save of the year. Castillo allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out seven while allowing only two runs to scored.
With a combined 25 hits and six walks, the RiverDogs and Greenville stranded 11 runners apiece in the game.
Game three of the four game series will see Greenville send out RHP Henry Owens and his 7-2 record, 5.20 ERA. Charleston will counter with RHP Scottie Allen who is 2-5 with a 5.48 ERA. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 7:05pm.
