Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators pounded out a season-high 20 hits in a 12-3 runaway win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Grant Buckner and Mark Haddow led the way with four hits and two RBI each as every Intimidators hit safely for the team's fifth straight win.
Ryan Buch (1-0) worked three scoreless, hitless innings of relief to earn a win in his first appearance with Kannapolis this season. He struck out four and walked two in relief of starter Myles Jaye, who allowed three runs on six hits in four innings. Delmarva starter Eduardo Rodriguez (2-3) took the loss, giving up six runs on 10 hits in five innings.
Kannapolis (35-37, 2-0 in the 2nd Half) overcame an early deficit with four runs in the fourth inning and pulled away from the Shorebirds (28-43, 0-2) with a six-run seventh. Buch led the Intimidators bullpen that worked five scoreless frames with Jeff Soptic and Jarrett Casey each working an inning to close the game.
Kannapolis scored in the bottom of the first inning when Grant Buckner doubled to right field and scored on a Mark Haddow single.
Delmarva tied the game in the second inning when Gabriel Lino doubled with two outs, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Myles Jaye balk. Brenden Webb put the Shorebirds ahead with a solo home run in the top of the third inning, and Mikey Planeta added an RBI-single for a 3-1 lead.
The Intimidators plated four in the fourth inning. Rangel Ravelo, Leighton Pangilinan and David Herbek led off the inning with consecutive singles. Garis Pena singled home Ravelo, and a Ross Wilson sac-fly cashed Pangilinan to tie the game, 3-3. Buckner followed with a two-run double that gave the Intimidators the lead, 5-3. Leighton Pangilinan added a sac-fly in the fifth and the Intimidators tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning off reliever Jesse Beal.
The Intimidators exploded for six runs in the seventh inning, all with two outs. David Herbek began the scoring with an RBI double, and an error in centerfield brought home two more runs to open the door for three more.
The Intimidators continue this four-game series against the Shorebirds on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Matt Lane (2-0, 4.89) duels Delmarva's RHP Miguel Chalas (6-3, 5.19). Saturday's game will be followed by a fireworks show presented by F&M Bank. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
