Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- In the end, it was another one run defeat suffered by the Asheville Tourists. However, Thursday night's game against the Charleston RiverDogs was entertaining throughout. Asheville nearly overcame a four-run deficit but instead dropped their seventh one-run contest of the season; 5-4 at the hands of the RiverDogs.

With the Tourists going for a sweep at home, both starting pitchers came out firing. Asheville's Ryan Castellani and Charleston's Luis Cedeno worked three scoreless frames before the RiverDogs struck in the fourth. Jorge Mateo led off with a double, stole third, and then scored on Conner Spencer's RBI fielder's choice. A few batters later, Austin Aune doubled home a pair of RiverDogs. Gosuke Katoh capped the four-run rally with an RBI single to center.

The Tourists answered in the sixth. Asheville put runners at first and second with two outs for Forrest Wall. The second-baseman worked a full count before crushing the pay-off pitch over the right field wall. The Home Run was Wall's second of the season and made it a 4-3 game.

Logan Sawyer kept the RiverDogs off the scoreboard for three innings. In his fourth inning of relief, the visitors were able to scrape across a key insurance run. Asheville answered with a two out rally in the bottom of the eighth. Drew Weeks singled and Sean Dwyer followed with a double that plated Weeks.

In the ninth and trailing by just one, the Tourists received a lead-off single from Dom Nunez. Kevin Padlo attempted to sacrifice him to second but was unsuccessful. Charleston's Joe Harvey retired the next two batters to nail down the save.

Asheville still took two out of three in the series and continues its homestand on Friday night with the Lexington Legends coming to town. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
