Lexington Legends News Release
Lexington's Carlos Garcia doubled to right center field with two outs in the ninth inning to prevent a no-hitter, but the Asheville Tourists took a 4-1 win over the Legends Friday night in Asheville.
Asheville starter Carlos Polanco pitched the first seven innings. He hit Garcia, the game's leadoff batter. Garcia stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alfredo Escalera. Polanco did not allow another baserunner.
The Tourists claimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back triples by Omar Carrizales and Forrest Wall produced a run, and Wall came home on a ground out by Drew Weeks.
Asheville added a run in the second on a double by Kevin Padlo, a sacrifice bunt by Randy Reyes, and a sacrifice fly by Luis Jean. They scored their final run in the fourth. The Tourists did not have a base runner after the fourth inning.
Gavin Glanz relieved Polanco at the start of the eighth and set the Legends down in order. Josh Michalec took over in the ninth. He retired Luis Villegas and Michael Hill on ground outs before Garcia lined his hit to the wall in right center. Corey Toups then singled to left field, but Weeks threw out Garcia at the plate to end the game.
Polanco (1-0) got the win. Legends starter Zach Lovvorn (0-3), who worked the first five and one-third innings, was the losing pitcher. Reliever Ashton Goudeau retired all eight batters he faced.
The second game of the four-game series will be played Saturday night. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
