Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Lakewood BlueClaws scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Savannah reliever Alberto Baldonado to grab a 2-1 win over the Gnats Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. With the loss, the Gnats (7-14) have now dropped three of the first four on their seven-game home-stand.

Lakewood (11-11) scored the game's first run in the top of the first off Savannah starter Casey Meisner. First baseman Rhys Hoskins singled home 2B Tim Zier, who had singled to start the game. That early run was the only tally Meisner allowed in his 6.1 innings. He gave up eight hits and a walk, while striking out just one.

The Gnats evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. DH John Mora led off the inning with a walk and came around to score on RF Wuilmer Becerra's single into centerfield. All three Gnats' hits Friday were singles.

In the eighth, the BlueClaws used Baldonado's wildness to score the go-ahead run. Centerfielder Carlos Tocci led off with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. He scored when Baldonado bounced a wild pitch through catcher Tyler Moore's legs.

The Sand Gnats and Lakewood will continue their four-game series tomorrow, May 2nd at 6:05 PM. The Gnats will throw RHP Josh Prevost (0-3, 6.75), while the BlueClaws will send RHP Chris Oliver (1-2, 3.00) to the hill in game two. Like every Saturday, there will be Saturday Night Fireworks presented by Coastal Health District. The Sand Gnats will host Yoga in the Park at Historic Grayson Stadium at 9:30 am. Yoga is free and those who attend will receive a ticket to Saturday Night's ball game.
