Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees have announced that infielder Ty McFarland has been activated from the disabled list and that catcher Radley Haddad has been added to Charleston's roster from the High-A Tampa Yankees. Infielder Jose Javier and catcher Alvaro Noriega have both been transferred to Extended Spring Training as counter moves, which puts the RiverDogs' roster at 25.
McFarland, 23, was selected by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of James Madison University. The Bridgewater, Va., native made his professional debut with short-season Staten Island in 2014 and batted .278 (66-for-237) with 24 runs, 17 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, and a team-high 40 RBI in 62 games. He was tabbed a New York-Penn League midseason All-Star. McFarland played four seasons at JMU and hit .315 in 196 games for the Dukes.
Haddad, 24, was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 2013. He spent the majority of the 2014 season with the Staten Island Yankees, playing in nine games and batting .167 (3-for-18) with 2 runs, 1 double, and 2 walks. The Carmel, Ind., native made his professional debut in 2013 with the GCL Yankees 1 squad before he was promoted to Staten Island.
Javier and Noriega leave the RiverDogs following the first 21 games of the South Atlantic League season. Javier played in eight games and batted .179 (4-for-26) with 5 RBI and a run scored. Noriega formed one-half of Charleston's catching corps and played in 10 games for Luis Dorante's club. He hit .194 (7-for-36) with a double and five RBI, and threw out 7-of-24 (29.2%) of opposing base stealers.
