
Hockenberry Locks Down 2-1 Win in Savannah on Friday

SAVANNAH, GA - Carlos Tocci scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the 8th inning and the BlueClaws bullpen shut the door as Lakewood topped Savannah 2-1 on Friday night at Grayson Stadium.
Tocci, who started the 8th inning with a double, was at third with two outs, when Alberto Baldonado threw a wild pitch with two strikes on Deivi Grullon. Tocci came home to score the winning run as the BlueClaws improved to 3-1 on their road trip.
Alexis Rivero, who allowed one run in two innings, got the win to improve to 1-0. Austin Davis threw a scoreless 8th for Lakewood and Matt Hockenberry threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 5th save, tying the league lead. Hockenberry has not allowed a run in 11 innings pitched so far this year.
The BlueClaws got three hits and a run in the first inning with Rhys Hoskins driving in Tim Zier with the first run of the game. Zier had single to right-center off Casey Meisner on the first pitch of the game.
Alexis Rivero, on in relief of starter Ranfi Casimiro, walked the lead-off batter in the 6th inning, and after John Mora advanced on a wild pitch, he scored on a two-out RBI single by Wuilmer Beccera to tie the game at 1.
Ranfi Casimiro started the game for the BlueClaws and threw five scoreless innings. Casey Meisner allowed one run in 6.1 innings for Savannah, while Sand Gnats reliever Alberto Baldonado gave up a run in 1.1 innings and fell to 0-2 on the year.
Tocci's two hits give him hits in 16 of his last 17 games. Rhys Hoskins had two hits for the BlueClaws and is now 17 for his last 38.
The series in Savannah continues on Saturday at 6:05. Chris Oliver (1-2) starts for Lakewood against Savannah's Josh Prevost (0-2).
