Total Represents Largest Combined Attendance in History
August 22, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA- Friday was an historic evening in Central Pennsylvania baseball history as a combined record total of 13,736 fans attended games at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona and Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College. The Altoona Curve posted a season-high crowd of 8,731 for their contest against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (AA/Blue Jays), while the State College Spikes welcomed 5,005 fans for their game against the Jamestown Jammers (A/Marlins).
Friday's combined Curve and Spikes attendance breaks the previous record total of 13,346 set on August 17, 2007.
"The incredible combined attendance tonight in Altoona and State College shows again that in these difficult economic times there is no greater value than a minor league baseball game," said Curve President and Managing Partner Chuck Greenberg. "We recognize that all across Central and Western Pennsylvania folks are making difficult decisions about how to spend their hard-earned dollar and we are proud to be able to provide so many people night after night with a memorable and affordable experience."
The Curve will remain at home through Sunday, hosting the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, while the Spikes will hit the road Saturday to open a five-day road trip. Altoona has just six remaining home games at Blair County Ballpark, including Saturday's 7:05 p.m. game and a 6:05 p.m. contest Sunday evening. Saturday's game will be highlighted by the fifth in a series of six Tenth Anniversary Team Photoball Giveaways, featuring Tom Gorzelanny and Rob Mackowiak. Post-game fireworks will cap Sunday's game. Kids are invited to run the bases following each game courtesy of Thomas Chevrolet of Bedford.
The Spikes also have only six remaining home games and will return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park next Thursday and Friday for a brief two-game set against Mahoning Valley. On Thursday at 7:05 p.m. the Philly Phanatic will entertain fans, plus it's the Spikes' unique "Stone Broke College Student Night" and "Thirsty Thursday". Next Friday at 5:30, the Myrtle Beach Area CVB will give away a three-day, two-night trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Tickets can be purchased at either (877) 99-CURVE or (877) 99-SPIKES and additional ticket information for each respective club can be viewed at either AltoonaCurve.com or StateCollegeSpikes.com.
