ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...

Tonight the SeaWolves look for three straight wins as they open up their final road series of the season in the first of a three-game series against the Connecticut Defenders (San Francisco Giants) at Dodd Stadium. The ‘Wolves won the final two games of the New Britain series including yesterday's 6-3 victory to split the season series with the ‘Cats. The SeaWolves took two of three from the Defenders at Jerry Uht Park last week and they lead the season series 2-1. Since the all-star break, the ‘Wolves are 23-12 and the team is in fourth place in the Southern Division, 16 games behind first Bowie. Erie is also 14-5 in the month of August. Erie is in a stretch of 12 straight games against Northern Division opponents. The SeaWolves and Defenders meet six times in a span of 10 days. The ‘Wolves are 6-4 in their last 10 games. The 14 wins in August ties the month of April with most wins by month in 2008 for the SeaWolves...The Defenders are at .500 and in fourth place in the Northern Division, 15 games behind first place Trenton and five games behind wild card leading Portland. They are 5-5 in the last 10 games...Lefty Luke French takes the mound for the Howlers, making his 26th appearance and 25th start. He tossed a nine-complete game in his last start against Connecticut in picking up his seventh win of the season. French allowed two runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts in the win. Erie has won three straight and five of the last six games started by French...Righty Joey Martinez takes the mound for the Defenders. He beat the ‘Wolves on August 17 at "The Uht" going 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
