
Pena Activated from the Disabled List

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that SS Ramiro Pena has been activated from the Disabled List. RHP Anthony Claggett has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to August 19th.
Pena is hitting .264 in 101 G with two home runs and 42 RBI this season for Trenton. He represented the Thunder and the Yankees Organization in the Futures Game as part of the All-Star Game festivities at Yankee Stadium. During the month of June, he had a .305 BA in 26 games with one home run and 12 RBI. During 2007, Pena hit .252 with 10 RBI in 52 games. He also appeared in 26 games for the Thunder in the 2006 season. He had a .198 in 26 G with 6 RBI. He was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 2/18/05.
Claggett has spent almost the entire season with the Thunder. He has also appeared in one game for Tampa (High-A). He is 4-2 with a 2.15 ERA in 29 games with the Thunder, including nine saves. Opponents are hitting only .233 against him. In his one game for Tampa, he gave up four hits and one run in three innings for a no-decision. Claggett had a 0.95 ERA in his first 17 games with the Thunder. During 2007, he went 9-8 with a 3.69 ERA in 32 G (16 starts) with Tampa, including two saves. He also started one game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A), and gave up three runs in five innings for a no-decision. Claggett was originally selected by Detroit in the 11th round of the 2005 draft. He was acquired by the Yankees along with RHP Kevin Whelan and RHP Humberto Sanchez for OF Gary Sheffield (11/10/06).
Trenton starts a three-game series against the Reading Phillies, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, on Friday night from Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Jeff Marquez (0-0, 4.50) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP Andrew Carpenter (5-8, 6.13).
