Patterson triples and scores game-winning run on 10th-inning wild pitch

Altoona, PA- J.P. Arencibia smashed a ninth-inning, game-tying home run, and Ryan Patterson capped a 3-for-5 night by tripling and scoring the game-winning run on a 10th- inning wild pitch as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats rallied past the Altoona Curve, 5-4, before a crowd of 8,735 at Blair County Ballpark on Friday night.

Scott Campbell (1-for-4, 2B, 2 BB, R) walked to lead off the game, advanced to second on Arencibia's walk and scored on Brian Dopirak's RBI single off Jared Hughes to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead.

Altoona (60-73) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of unearned runs off Marty McLeary. Shelby Ford (1-for-5, R) reached on Campbell's fielding error, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a run-scoring single by Jose Tabata (3-for-5, 2B, SB, RBI, R). Tabata stole second base and came in with the go-ahead run when McLeary committed a throwing error on a Jim Negrych (2-for-3, RBI, SAC) sacrifice bunt.

McLeary settled down to retire 10 straight batters before the Curve struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jonel Pacheco (1-for-5, SB, R) singled, stole second base and scored on a Brad Corley (1-for-5, 2B, RBI) double to deep right, making it 3-1.

Altoona increased its advantage to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Milver Reyes (1-for-4, R) led off with a single, moved to third on Tabata's double and scored when Negrych singled through the drawn-in infield.

New Hampshire (57-76) began mounting its comeback in the top of the sixth inning when Andrew Pinckney (2-for-5, 2B, R) doubled to knock Hughes out of the game. Jacob Butler (2-for-5) hit a single off reliever Pat Bresnehan, and Patterson (3-for-5, 3B, RBI, R) followed a bad-hop single to center, driving in Pinckney to trim the Curve's lead to 4-2.

The Fisher Cats drew to within 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning when Dopirak ripped an RBI double off Bresnehan, scoring Arencibia, who reached on Negrych's two-base throwing error.

With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Arencibia (1-for-4, HR, B, RBI, 2 R) ripped a Ronald Belisario offering inside the leftfield foul pole for his 14th home run, knotting the game, 4-4.

The Fisher Cats went ahead, 5-4, in the top of the 10th inning when Patterson tripled off losing pitcher Moises Robles (0-1) and scored on Robles' wild pitch.

Seth Overbey (4-3) pitched three scoreless innings win for the fourth time, matching a career high. The right-hander allowed one hit and one walk, notching two strike outs.

New Hampshire aims for its third straight win when it meets Altoona in the second game of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05pm. Fisher Cats' right-hander Jean Machi (2-5, 4.39), the reigning Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, matches up with Curve right-hander Yoslan Herrera (5-9, 3.45) at Blair County Ballpark.
