Bowie handles B-Mets

A six-run second propelled the Bowie Baysox to a 7-1 win over the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium Friday. The loss is Binghamton's second in a row.

Bowie (79-54) opened the second with five straight hits off Tobi Stoner (4-6), who did not make it out of the inning. Mike Rodriguez opened the scoring with a two-run triple before Jonathan Tucker singled in a run and Blake Davis doubled in another. Run-scoring singles by Matt Wieters and Steve Torrealba put Bowie ahead 6-0.

Jeff Nettles homered off Edgar Alfonzo in the eighth to account for Bowie's final run.

Binghamton (69-64) was held at bay by Bowie starter Jason Berken (12-3), who tossed seven scoreless innings. However, the B-Mets got on the board against reliever Gerardo Casadiego in the ninth. The inning opened with Jonathan Malo being hit by a pitch before Mike Carp singled and Caleb Stewart walked, loading the bases with no outs. Josh Petersen followed by reaching on a fielder's choice that scored Malo.

Saturday, the Binghamton Mets play the second game of a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox. Dillon Gee (1-0, 1.38) will start for Binghamton against Brad Bergesen (15-4, 3.00) of New Hampshire. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: before the ninth, the B-Mets hadn't scored a run for 20 consecutive innings, last scoring in the fifth inning Wed. vs. NH...Berken owns two of Bowie's three wins over the B-Mets this season.
