(Harrisburg, PA) - The Harrisburg Senators (69-64) scored both runs with two outs, beating the Sea Dogs (69-60) 2-1, Friday night in the series opener at Commerce Bank Park. Portland is 4-3 during a stretch of seven straight 1-run games.
Steve Schmoll (3-4) pitched 3.2 scorless frames for the Senators to earn the win. Schmoll reliever starter Jordan Zimmerman (4 IP, 3 H, 1 R 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) in the fifth inning, allowing five hits and three strikeouts.
Adam Carr entered the game in the eighth inning with pinch-runner Argenis Diaz at second base and got Josh Reddick to foul out to the catcher. Carr pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.
Dustin Richardson (7-8) suffered the tough luck loss for Portland, yielding four hits and two runs over five innings. Richardson recorded his second straight 7-strikeout performance but fell to 1-2 in August.
Harrisburg scored in their first two turns against Richardson. Seth Bynum drew a 2-out walk in the first and scored on Ofilio Castro's run-scoring double to left-centerfield. In the second inning, Garrett Guzman doubled on a 3-1 pitch and scored on Edgardo Baez's RBI single.
Portland's lone run came in the fourth inning with two outs off Zimmermann. Tony Granadillo delivered a run-scoring single to left field, scoring Lars Anderson, who drew a walk.
Portland had a hit from seven of nine starters but dropped to 1-3 on their 6-game roadtrip. Richie Lentz relieved Richardson in the sixth inning and worked 1.2 scoreless innings on two hits. Mike James worked the ninth inning and recorded three fly outs.
Mickey Hall finished 3-for-4, BB, 2B but struckout to end the game.
