Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators rode strong pitching and clutch hitting to a 2-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs, Friday at Commerce Bank Park. Edgardo Baez had a big night for the Senators at the plate and in the field and the Harrisburg bullpen worked five scoreless innings.
The Senators jumped on top with early clutch hitting. In the 1st, Seth Bynum drew a two-out walk and scored when Ofilio Castro ripped an RBI double to the alley in left-center. It snapped a streak of 13 games in which the opposition scored first.
In the 2nd, Garrett Guzman doubled down the right-field line and scored when Baez followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
The Sea Dogs got on the board in the 4th inning. Lars Anderson walked, went to third on a single by Josh Reddick and scored on an RBI single by Tony Granadillo to cut it to 2-1.
Portland threatened in the top of the 5th when Mickey Hall hit a leadoff double. The Sea Dogs had runners at the corners with one out but did not score as RHP Steve Schmoll worked out of the jam.
In the 7th, Baez came up with a big defensive play. Mickey Hall blooped a fly ball to right and Baez dove to attempt a catch, but the ball bounced in front of him. Baez picked up the ball and fired a strike to second base to nail Hall for the second out of the inning.
Schmoll picked up the win, going 3.2 scoreless innings in relief to improve to 3-4. RHP Adam Carr notched his 11th save of the year by retiring the final four hitters of the game. Portland LHP Dustin Richardson (7-8) took the loss.
The Senators improved to 69-64. Portland fell to 69-60.
The Senators and Sea Dogs continue the three-game series Saturday at 6:05 PM. LHP Justin Jones (2-4, 4.53 ERA) takes on Portland RHP Adam Mills (0-4, 4.53 ERA).
