Toronto Handles Moose 5-1
December 16, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (11-14-2-0) fell 5-1 to the Toronto Marlies (12-10-3-2) on Saturday night at Bell MTS Place. Moose newcomer Brent Pedersen made an impact early, laying out a Marlies defender on his first shift. The fast pace and physicality from Manitoba carried through the first half of the period, but they couldn't capitalize with a goal. Toronto's first power play opportunity turned into a 5-on-3 with 6:12 left in the frame. The visitors cashed in with back-to-back power play goals, 13 seconds apart, as Trevor Moore and Chris Mueller did the damage.
The Marlies stretched their lead to 3-0 just shy of two minutes into the middle frame on a rocket of a wrist shot from Carl Grundstrom. After the teams traded penalties, Toronto scored on their third consecutive power play with Chris Mueller notching his second of the contest, 13:42 into the period. Toronto's success on the power play helped push the Marlies to a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Manitoba got on the board four minutes into the third with Michael Spacek finding a rebound and firing home his second goal in as many games. The Moose went on the attack from there, but couldn't get past Michael Garteig in the Toronto net. The Marlies restored the four-goal edge as Sam Gagner banked a pass in off Josh Jooris' skates with eight minutes left to leave the final score at 5-1 Toronto.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent on his club battling adversity - "We can't control the weather, we can't control what is happening to our hockey team. Injuries are injuries. I've never seen this. It's been for a little while now, but at the same time I think what is happening to you is one thing, but it's how you react. We've heard that quote in the past, and it's all about that. It tells you about your character, it tells you about your values, it tell you about who you are as a person. The way we faced the game today, and the way we approached the challenge was the right way to do it."
Defenceman Charles-David Beaudoin - "We're going to have a day off tomorrow and on Monday we're going to be right back at it, and we're going to have to learn from (the weekend). We got to build from what is positive out there, but learn also from our mistakes. Then be back Friday and be ready to go."
