December 16, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Stockton Heat News Release

Stockton, CA. - Stockton's offensive attack was stifled in the 1-0 loss to Bakersfield by rookie goaltender Dylan Wells who stopped all 27 shots. Bakersfield scored the game's only goal at the 12:31 mark of the opening period. Josh Currie's seventh goal of the year was the difference in the one-goal game. Stockton had a terrific scoring chances in the opening period, including two looks right in front of the goal for Dillon Dube. Lazar was denied later in the night on a sprawling glove save from the rookie netminder that left Lazar in disbelief in the slot. Wells led Bakersfield to their second straight win as the rookie collected his first AHL win. Stockton received solid goaltending on the other end of the ice as Nick Schneider stopped 30 of 31 shots in goal for the Heat. Schneider picks up just his third loss of the season in the 1-0 game. Stockton has allowed just six goals over their last three games, but they are searching for an offensive spark with only four goals in the team's last three contests. Special teams played a very limited role in tonight's game. There was a total of just eight penalty minutes in the game. Stockton had a power play late in the third period with the goalie pulled, but were unable to equalize. Stockton will have a change for revenge against Bakersfield on Wednesday at 7:00 PM to wrap up a season-long six game home stand.

QUOTES

"There's a lot of chances I felt we had pucks in and around the net and whether it was him [Dylan Wells] or their D-men, they made some really good saves in tight." - Spencer Foo on what the difference maker was in tonight's game

"It seemed like a pretty run and gun game, but at the end of the day when you're down one, you always feel like you're within reach and I think the boys played pretty hard until the end of the night. It's just one of those ones where we couldn't get a bounce and that's the end result." - Foo on the flow of tonight's game

"I think that tonight's a good example of the offense is there, we just need to work on the execution. We had a couple good looks in the first period that if we got good stick on the puck, then it's going in the back of the net. It's a matter of making sure that we put ourselves in the position to generate offense" - Coach Cail MacLean on generating offense

"He gave us a chance to win and when you can hold the other team to one goal, especially with our style and personnel, we should be able to find a way to score two or more." - Coach MacLean on having Nick Schneider back with the Stockton Heat

"We've done a good job of adjusting, playing the right way against Bakersfield. Give them credit, early in the year they were executing well and playing really fast and certainly are in a position where I feel like we're playing them the right way. Now it's a matter of, as you say, flip the script by way of making sure we execute more with our pucks throughout the neutral zone. Put it behind them and then make sure we finish off our opportunities. We had odd man rushes, we had various things tonight where we just need to finish." - Coach MacLean on facing Bakersfield again on Wednesday night

LOOKING AHEAD

Stockton wraps up their six-game home stand on Wednesday night vs. Bakersfield. The Heat will then hit the road for four straight games. Two in Iowa before the Christmas break and then two in Tucson against the second place Roadrunners. The Heat will close out 2018 at home against San Jose on New Year's Eve at 5 PM.
