Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

LAS VEGAS -- Alfredo Amezaga's three-run double in the seventh broke a tie score and lifted the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 5-2 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Monday night at Cashman Field.

The win snapped the Topes' three-game losing streak and gives them a chance to split this four-game series in Vegas.

Brian Barden started the game-winning rally with a single on the first pitch of the inning. After a Justin Sellers sacrifice bunt, Jesus Flores and pinch hitter Matt Angle were walked by 51s reliever Dylan Owen.

Tony Gwynn, Jr. then drew a bases-loaded walk, from Justin Hampson, to tie the score at 2-2. Amezaga followed with the bases-clearing double inside the third-base bag.

Starting pitcher Matt Palmer (1-1) allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings to get his first victory of the year. Palmer didn't have a clean inning, but stranded nine runners on base and benefited from two double plays.

In the seventh, the Topes turned a rare 9-1 double play. With a runner at third base and one out, Zach Lutz hit a flyball to right field. Chili Buss caught the flyball, but his throw was over the head of catcher Jesus Flores. Reliever Josh Wall was backing up the play, caught the ball on the fly on the grass behind home plate, then raced home and tagged out baserunner Josh Satin.

Chris Withrow pitched a scoreless eighth inning, then Steve Ames worked a scoreless ninth for his fourth save. The first two batters singled off Ames, but he struck out Satin, and induced a 4-6-3 double play -- the fourth of the night by the Topes defense -- to end the game.

The finale of the four-game series is Tuesday morning, starting at 11:35 am Mountain Time. Angel Castro starts for the Topes. Chris Schwinden gets the ball for the 51s.
