Today's Game: The RedHawks look to avoid being swept in a series for the first time this season when they face Salt Lake in a field trip day game at 11:05 a.m.
Last Game: Bees catcher John Hester hit two home runs and Salt Lake got out of multiple late jams in a 3-2 win Monday in Bricktown. For the second-straight game, the RedHawks scored in the first inning, this time on an RBI double by Brett Wallace. Hester hit a solo home run in the third inning to tie the game and went deep again in the fifth to put Salt Lake ahead. Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, Wallace hit a broken-bat bloop single to center field to score a run. The RedHawks loaded the bases with one out, but Marc Krauss hit into an inning-ending double play. OKC also left the bases loaded to end the eighth. RedHawks starting pitcher Brad Peacock (0-1) threw five innings, striking out a season-high nine, and allowed two runs on four hits in the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Asher Wojciechowski makes his third start since getting promoted to the RedHawks...He recorded his first Triple-A win Thursday against Tacoma, throwing six shutout innings while allowing five hits, walking three and striking out three...Through his first 10 innings with the RedHawks, Wojciechowski has allowed only one run and held his opposition to no hits with runners in scoring position (0-for-15)...He started strong this season with Double-A Corpus Christi, going 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA over six games. His season began with 20 consecutive scoreless innings, a streak that extended to 33.2 innings dating back to last season...At the time of his promotion, Wojciechowski ranked eighth in the Texas League in ERA, fifth in batting average (.188), and fifth in WHIP (0.92)...He was named Corpus Christi April Pitcher of the Month by the Astros.
Against the Bees: 2013: 0-3 2012: 0-4 All-time: 36-43 In OKC: 21-18
Since 2011, the Bees have won nine-straight games over the RedHawks...In four of the last seven games, the Bees notched the go-ahead/game-winning hit in the seventh inning or later...The last OKC win was a 5-2 victory May 15, 2011 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...Last season the Bees swept a four-game set at Spring Mobile Ballpark, winning a pair of extra-inning games...Eight of the last 11 games between the squads have been decided by one or two runs...The last time Salt Lake visited Bricktown, the Bees won the series, 3-1, in 2011...The RedHawks will not win the season series for the eighth time in the last nine seasons.
Negative Nine: Going back to 2011, the RedHawks have dropped nine-straight games to Salt Lake. The Bees have overcome deficits in the seventh inning or later three times during the streak. The last time the RedHawks dropped nine consecutive games against one opponent was during a 10-game losing skid against Omaha July 9, 2011-May 7, 2012.
Stash Those Brooms: The RedHawks were last swept in a four-game series by Sacramento Aug. 10-13, 2012 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City has won the finale of seven of their nine completed series in 2013, including in all of their previous five home series.
Oberholtzer Named PCL PItcher of the Week: Yesterday starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 6-12. Oberholtzer earned the award following his dominant start Friday against Tacoma in which he tossed 5.2 scoreless innings with one hit and a season-high nine strikeouts.
Start Me Up: Oberholtzer's award was only appropriate given the recent performance of the starting rotation. Over the seven games during the current homestand, the starting rotation has combined for a 2.29 ERA (10 ER/39.1 IP) and has allowed only 28 hits with 15 walks and 41 strikeouts. Four times the starter has allowed one or no runs.
At Your Own RISP: The RedHawks have held their opponents to a .146 average (7-for-48) with runners in scoring position over the last five games as well as a .162 mark (11-for-68) during the current homestand.
Kount 'Em: For the fourth time in seven games during the current homestand, the RedHawks pitching staff registered at least 10 strikeouts. The recent run is a bit out of the norm, as their 260 strikeouts this season ranks 13th in the PCL.
Heavy Hitter: Last night John Hester became the first RedHawks opponent to hit two home runs in a game since Kila Ka'aihue did it for Sacramento on Aug. 11, 2012. Oddly enough, Brad Peacock also pitched in that game, but for Sacramento.
Bases Loaded Lethargy: The RedHawks are 0-for-7 with the bases loaded this series and have stranded the bases loaded five times. They are hitting only .229 with the bases full this season after hitting .370 with the bases loaded in 2012.
The Runnin' RedHawks of OKC: The RedHawks lead the league with 56 stolen bases, including 35 in the last 16 games. They have swiped at least one bag in 15 of those games.
Running With the Pac: The RedHawks are in the midst of a stretch of 16-straight games against Pacific Conference foes, going 4-3 so far. Last season the RedHawks went 14-17 against the other side of the league, including an 8-7 mark at home.
Rise and Shine: Today is the second of five games the RedHawks will play this season that begin in the morning. The RedHawks went 2-2 in a.m. games last year and are 1-0 so far in 2013.
