NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds connected for only four hits in Tuesday morning's 9-0 loss at Greer Stadium to the visiting Sacramento River Cats, marking the second time this season the Sounds have been swept in a four-game series by their opponent.

The loss marks Nashville's fifth in a row and the team's fourth shutout loss of the season. The Sounds were outscored by Sacramento, 28-11, in the series.

One bright spot for the Sounds came in the eighth inning, when veteran pitcher Francisco Rodriguez struck out the side on 20 pitches. He walked nine-hole hitter Conner Crumbliss to start the inning, but retired the top of the lineup in order. All three strikeouts came on off-speed pitches.

Both Kyle Heckathorn and Mike Olmsted also pitched one scoreless frame for Nashville, unfortunately for the Sounds, Sacramento already held a 7-0 lead.

The River Cats scratched their first four runs in the opening inning off the Sounds right-handed starter Frankie De La Cruz (1-5). The Nashville hurler had difficulty finding control of his pitches, starting the game by plunking Jermile Weeks.

The next three batters touched De La Cruz for singles and a pair of runs. He delivered his second hit by pitch to Sacramento's designated hitter Grant Green to load the bases. Two RBI-groundouts and a walk to Andy Parrino transpired before De La Cruz got the ninth batter of the inning to pop up for the final out.

De La Cruz pitched a scoreless second, third and fourth innings, and was one out away from a scoreless fifth, but Jeremy Barfield crushed a line-drive home run to left field that put the R-Cats up 7-0. The Sounds pitcher took the loss, his fifth, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks over five innings. He threw 99 pitches on the day, fanning two batters, before Nashville activated the 'pen.

In the ninth, reliever Rob Wooten let in Sacramento's final two runs, ending his scoreless streak at 17.2 innings. It is only the second time in 14 appearances Wooten has surrendered a run.

Sounds batters Hainley Statia, Anderson De La Rosa, Sean Halton and Scooter Gennett accounted for the Sounds four hits. De La Rosa picked up the only extra-base knock with his double to the left-field corner in the fifth inning. The hit gives Nashville's backstop seven extra-base hits in his last seven games.

After a scheduled off day Wednesday, the Sounds head west for series against the Salt Lake Bees (AAA-Angels) and the Tacoma Rainiers (AAA-Mariners). Starting for Nashville on Thursday will be RHP Johnny Hellweg (1-4, 4.41) against the Bees' RHP Kip Wells (1-2, 9.00). Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Friday, May 24, as the Sounds host the Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA-Dodgers) to a four-game set. The game will feature a postgame fireworks show.
