New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Scott Savastano was a late addition to Tacoma's starting lineup on Tuesday, but he made a big impact by hitting a game-tying RBI triple in the fifth inning, then scoring the go-ahead run on a single by Abraham Almonte as the Rainiers beat the New Orleans Zephyrs, 4-2 at Zephyr Field.

Tacoma won three of four games and took a series from New Orleans for only the third time in the 16-year history between the clubs.

Nick Franklin was scratched for Tacoma 's original lineup and replaced at second base by Savastano, who lined a triple over the head of center fielder Gorkys Hernandez with one out in the fifth to cash in a single by Jesus Sucre. Almonte then looped a fly ball into shallow right field past a drawn-in infield to score Savastano with the eventual game-winning run.

Rich Poythress added a solo homer, his second of the series and fourth of the season, to lead off the seventh inning, providing the Rainiers with some insurance.

The Zephyrs loaded the bases with one out in the first inning on singles by Hernandez, Ed Lucas and Jordan Brown and took the lead on Ben Lasater's ground out to short. Tacoma starter Blake Beavan struck out Koyie Hill to strand two runners in scoring position.

Doubles by Carlos Triunfel and Carlos Peguero in the fourth inning allowed the Rainiers to tie the game, but the Zephyrs responded in the bottom of the frame when Brown led off with a double and scored on a two-out infield single by Jake Smolinski .

Beavan (1-2) earned his first win of the year for Tacoma, allowing two runs and six hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Duane Below (2-2) suffered the loss for New Orleans after giving up three runs and six hits in five innings.

Logan Bawcom needed just eight pitches to retire the Zephyrs in order in the ninth to pick up his fifth save in as many chances.

Hernandez, Lucas and Brown had two hits each for the Z's, who lost for only the fourth time in 18 games this season when scoring first.

Following an off day Wednesday, the Zephyrs embark on an eight-game road trip through California beginning Thursday in Fresno . First pitch for the opener of the four-game set is scheduled for 9:05 p.m.
