Tucson Padres News Release
The Padres won in walk-off fashion for the second straight night Monday, as Tucson defeated the Round Rock Express 6-5 in ten innings at Kino Stadium. It was the first extra-inning game for the Padres, who were the last team in Triple-A to play extra frames in 2013.
Jim Adduci's RBI single to center in the top of the second put the Express on the board first. The Padres bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth when Tucson compiled four hits. After consecutive singles by Jesus Merchan and Justin Miller, Dean Anna lined a two-run double to left to give the Padres a 2-1 lead. Daniel Robertson followed with an RBI double to right, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. The Padres extended their lead to 5-2 after Rene Rivera and James Darnell hit RBI doubles in the sixth and seventh innings.
Leading 5-2 entering the ninth inning, the Padres bullpen surrendered three runs to tie the game. The first two runs came on RBI singles from Greg Miclat and Jose Felix and the tying run came when Colt Hynes' wild pitch bounced between the legs of Rene Rivera. Round Rock had runners at the corners in the top of the tenth, but the Padres turned a crucial 4-6-3 double play to preserve the tie score.
Cody Decker led off the bottom of the tenth with a triple to right field gap, putting the winning run 90 feet away. Two batters later with Rene Rivera at the plate, Lisalverto Bonilla threw a wild pitch allowing Decker to come home and end the game.
Miles Mikolas earned his first win of the season for Tucson, while Bonilla lost his second game for Round Rock. Padres starter Thad Weber pitched seven innings and allowed two runs.
Next Game: Tuesday, 7:05 pm vs. Round Rock (Rangers affiliate) - Round Rock RHP Colby Lewis (0-0, 13.50) vs. Tucson RHP Wilfredo Boscan (0-1, 3.00). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com. Free tickets are available at all eegee's locations.
