Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - Matt McBride clubbed two home runs and drove in five runs to power Colorado Springs past Omaha, 9-5, Tuesday night in the last of four meetings at Security Service Field. The Storm Chasers dipped to 19-18 and fell one game behind Memphis in the American Conference North Division after losing three of four to the Sky Sox, who maintained their hold on the top spot in the Pacific Conference North.

Irving Falu started the game with a single, advanced to second base on a David Lough sacrifice bunt and scored on a double by Johnny Giavotella, who drove in a run in the first inning in three games in the series and four times in eight games on the road trip. Max Ramirez followed with a base hit that brought Giavotella home to make it 2-0 and extend his hitting streak to 10 games. The hosts responded in their half of the frame with a two-run single by McBride that made it 12 earned runs allowed in seven first innings for Omaha starter Nate Adcock.

The teams traded home runs in the third, as Giavotella and Chad Tracy hit solo shots for Omaha and McBride went deep for the Sky Sox, who tacked on another two runs on an RBI hit by Hernan Iribarren and a run-producing ground out by Tommy Manzella to forge a 5-4 advantage.

Ramirez belted the first offering of the fifth from Colorado Springs starter Christ Volstad over the wall in centerfield for his seventh long ball of the season to square the score at five. The former Florida Marlins first round draft choice yielded those five runs on nine hits while walking two and fanning a pair over five frames and was replaced by Manny Corpas, who earned his second victory of the series with three scoreless, hitless innings.

Corey Dickerson hit what turned out to be the game-winning homer, a leadoff long ball in the sixth, his seventh extra-base hit of the series, that put the hosts ahead to stay at 6-5. Adcock took the loss after he finished six full innings, allowing the half dozen runs on 10 hits and a pair of free passes while striking out three. George Sherrill opened the eighth inning on the hill for Omaha and gave up a one-out single to D.J. LeMahieu, who created a run by stealing second base and then swiping third and scoring on an errant throw by catcher Brett Hayes to give his team a two-run cushion. Ryan Wheeler followed with a base hit in front of McBride, who blasted his second round-tripper of the night to finish the scoring.

The Storm Chasers will send left-hander Justin Marks to the mound Thursday night at Werner Park to open a four-game set against Las Vegas right-hander D.J. Mitchell. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:15 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
