Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - The Saint Paul Saints plated three runs in both the third and fifth inning and cashed in some defensive miscues to cruise the past the Louisville Bats 7-1 Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Highly-touted pitching prospect Graham Ashcraft made his Triple-A debut for the Bats, picking up five strikeouts while showcasing his high -90s MPH fastball and wipeout slider. The right-hander also yielded four walks, however, and ran into trouble in the third when St. Paul nicked him for three runs on three hits and a pair of free passes.
Ashcraft capped his outing with a final slider that easily punched out top prospect Roy Lewis in the top of the fourth. The right-hander departed with four runs (three earned) on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts over 3.1 innings of work.
Daniel Robertson and Jermaine Palacios each doubled home a run in the fifth for the Saints and Palacios crossed home himself as the result of a throwing error from shortstop.
The 6-0 lead was more than enough for St. Paul pitching, which combined to limit Louisville to just four hits in the contest.
Lorenzo Cedrola bounced back from his first hitless outing last night to produce a two-hit effort with a single and double. Cedrola now has six hits over his first four games with the Bats this season.
Bauers pated the Bats' lone run with a sac fly in the sixth.
Louisville and St. Paul continue their series Saturday at Louisville Slugger Field at 1:05 p.m. LHP Jacques Picheau will make the start for the Bats against LHP Devin Smeltzer.
