Too Little, Too Late as Condors Lose 5-3
January 22, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads scored four times in the opening frame and held on for a 5-3 win over the Bakersfield Condors at the Bank of America Centre on Friday night. The loss snapped the Condors nine-game unbeaten streak and was the first regulation win of the year for the Steelheads over Bakersfield.
Idaho caught a break when a dump-in off the opening draw caught Randy Petruk out of the Condors net, redirecting in front for an easy tap in by Marty Flichel just eight seconds in. Warren Peters added a tally at 4:06 of the first and Frank Lukes scored twice as the Steelheads blew open a 4-0 lead through 20 minutes. They added to the lead early in the second period, putting the Condors down by five goals. Bakersfield had a second-period shot lead of 12-6, but couldn't get anything past Frank Doyle and remained in the hole after 40 minutes.
Dennis Shiryaev put Bakersfield on the board with a wrist shot off the face off to make it 5-1. Vlad Serov assisted to run his scoring streak to seven games. Brett Lutes put two goals home in the final period to make a game of it. His first came 1:35 and his second of the night and ninth of the season came at 13:32. That was as close as they got, however, setting the stage for the rubber match on Saturday night.
Bakersfield takes on Idaho Saturday night as well in a 6:05 p.m. start from Boise. They return home to host the Fresno Falcons on Monday, January 24th for a 7:00 p.m. match. That night is Ladies' Night, sponsored by the Groove 99.3. All ladies can purchase 2-for-1 tickets and it will be females-only for all the night's promotions and intermission activities. On Friday, January 28th, the Condors square off against the Long Beach Ice Dogs in what could be a battle for first place in the West Division. That night, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Connor James bobblehead doll, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and Carl's Jr.
The Condors game against the Las Vegas Wranglers from last Saturday night will replay on Bright House Networks Ch. 21 this weekend on Saturday and Sunday night at 7:00 p.m.
