Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â The Long Beach Ice Dogs (25-11-3) kept rolling Friday night, defeating the Pensacola Ice Pilots (22-11-4) in the teams' first ever meeting. It was also the fifth win in a row for the Ice Dogs, who now sit tied for first in the West Division with the Bakersfield Condors who lost tonight to Idaho.
Long Beach scored first at 6:10 of the first period, when Marco Rosa put the Ice Dogs ahead 1-0 with an assist to Dan Watson. With the goal, Rosa extended his point streak to seven consecutive games. The game remained 1-0 after two periods, until Nathan Martz scored on the power play early in the third period to make it 2-0. Just five minutes later, Christian Larrivee, who was playing in his first game at home since returning from a month long stint in Hamilton, gave the Ice Dogs a commanding 3-0 lead.
Pensacola finally scored at 8:22 of the third period, but any chance of a comeback was quickly forgotten as Paul Dunphy scored the insurance goal, from Paul Spadafora and Evan Cheverie. It was the fifth consecutive game that Cheverie has scored an assist.
For much of the game, goaltenders Chris Madden and Frederic Cloutier were matching each other save for save, though Madden got the best of this match-up making 23 saves in the win. Long Beach went 1-5 on the power play while stopping all four of Pensacola's chances.
The Ice Dogs will take on the Las Vegas Wranglers here tomorrow night before having a rematch with Pensacola on Sunday. For more information, call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
