Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – For the second straight game Victoria Salmon Kings forward Chris Corrinet scored on the special teams, but it was not enough as the Alaska Aces beat Victoria 5-1.

The game was marked with the rivalry that is developing between the West Division clubs and Victoria's difficulty to find the twine continued Friday, as they were stopped by Brentwood Bay raised Lance Mayes, making 31 saves on the night.

On Wednesday Corrinet beat Long Beach Ice Dogs goalie Olivier Michaud shorthanded, on a play that he created with strength and skill. Again Friday, he showed how he uses strength to his advantage, when he powered his goal past Mayes, this time on the powerplay.

San Jose Sharks centreman Mark Smith made his Salmon King and ECHL debut on Friday against New Jersey Devils and Aces centreman Scott Gomez. This occasion marked the first time this year in British Columbia that two NHL centreman have stared each other down across the face-off dot, in a game that meant something.

The Aces scored five goals on a night that was filled with emotion on the ice. Gomez finished the night with two assists to stretch his league lead in that statistic and the Aces had goals from Jordan Cameron, Cal Benazic, B.J Young and two from Joe Talbot. Salmon Kings goalie Jason Stone made his second straight start for Victoria.

The Salmon Kings and Aces continue the series on Saturday at Bear Mountain Arena, game time is 7:00 p.m. PST.
