Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
South Bend, IN - Andrew Toles recorded his 57th multi-hit game of the season Friday night as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (79-56, 41-26) were unable to sweep the South Bend Silver Hawks (79-57, 35-32), falling 9-2 at Coveleski Stadium. Toles finished the night with 169 hits on the season, which allows him to stand alone in seventh place among all-time Tampa Bay Rays Minor Leaguers in single-season hits.
The Hot Rods were doomed by two big innings by the South Bens offense. In both the second and fifth innings, the Silver Hawks brought nine men to the plate. In the second inning, South Bend scored three times off Hot Rods starter Blake Snell. Then in the fifth, the Hawks tallied four runs all with two outs against Hot Rods reliever Jose Molina.
The run-scoring plays for the Hot Rods occurred in the fifth inning on a Toles two-out RBI double and in the eighth inning on a Tommy Coyle two-out single to score Toles, who was on base thanks to his 16th triple of the season. His 16 triples rank second in all of Minor League Baseball behind Byron Buxton's 18 triples.
With just three games to go in the 2013 regular season, the Hot Rods begin a three-game series with the Lake County Captains (Indians) on Saturday night at 7:05 PM CDT. Bowling Green will give the start to LHP Kevin Brandt (4-8, 4.14), while Lake County will send LHP Luis Lugo (0-0, 2.89) to the mound. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 PM CDT with Chris Kleinhans-Schulz and Hank Fuerst on the Forever Communications Pregame Show on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM, 1340wbgn.com, and on the TuneIn website and app).
Bowling Green's final homestand of the season begins Saturday with game one of a three-game series against the Lake County Captains. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT on Pink in the Park Night, featuring a Hot Rods jersey auction with proceeds benefitting BRASS and The Mary Kay Foundation. Saturday's game will be capped by Post-Game Fireworks presented by WBKO. For more information and to secure your tickets, call the Hot Rods Ticket Office at (270) 901-2121.
