Dayton Dragons News Release

Midland, Mich.-Dayton starting pitcher Ismael Guillon allowed only one hit over six shutout innings as the Dragons defeated the Great Lakes Loons 8-0 on Friday night. The Dragons guaranteed themselves a winning second half record with the victory as they improved to 36-31 with three games to play.

Guillon allowed only a sixth inning one-out single by Webster Rivas. He walked one and struck out nine in his second straight dominant outing. Guillon fired six no-hit innings in his previous start at Lansing on Saturday. Over three starts, Guillon had a streak of 13 and one-third no-hit innings before allowing the hit to Rivas.

The Dragons took the lead in the top of the first inning as Beau Amaral manufactured a run. Amaral singled to start the game, stole second and third, and scored when the throw to third bounced into left field to make it 1-0.

The Dragons added two more runs in the sixth. Daniel Pigott walked to start the inning and scored on a two-out triple to right field by Robert Ramirez. Ramirez scored on an error to make it 3-0.

Dayton scored five runs in the top of the ninth, keyed by a two-run single by Sammy Diaz and back-to-back RBI hits by Pigott and Jon Matthews, to take an 8-0 lead.

Dragons relievers Jesus Adames, Werleen Taveras, and Alejandro Chacin each pitched a scoreless inning, allowing no hits. On the night, Dragons pitchers combined to allow one hit and one walk with 12 strikeouts.

The Dragons finished with 10 hits. Amaral, Diaz, Pigott, Matthews, and Ramirez each had two.

The Dragons begin a three-game home series against South Bend on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Ben Lively will make his first start for the Dragons after 12 appearances at Billings in which he allowed only three earned runs over 37 innings. Lively was a fourth round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds earlier this summer out of the University of Central Florida. He will match up against South Bend's Braden Shipley (0-1, 2.65). The game will be televised on WHIO digital channel 7.2 and Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372.
