MIDLAND, Mich. - The Dayton Dragons (64-72, 36-31) held the Great Lakes Loons (66-70, 39-27) to one hit on Friday night and cruised to an 8-0 victory at Dow Diamond in the last game of a three-game series.

Friday night was the last home game of the regular season for Great Lakes. The Loons will back at Dow Diamond on Wednesday, September 4, as they host game one of a three-game series in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs. Their opponent for that series is yet to be determined.

"Nothing went right tonight," Loons manager Razor Shines said. "We obviously didn't hit very well tonight, we didn't catch it and we didn't pitch too well. That's what happens. A lot of times, when you are playing for something for so long, and you finally reach that goal and you celebrate, there's going to be a letdown. It didn't look like we were prepared tonight and that's my job. I have to do a better job preparing my club."

Fort Wayne leadoff hitter Beau Amaral, who was 2-for-5 in the game, got the TinCaps got on the board in the top of the first inning to start the scoring. Amaral reached on a single to left field in the first at-bat of the ballgame, before stealing second and third base. Loons third basemen Brandon Dixon committed an error on the steal of third, allowing Amaral to score.

Tom Windle (5-1), the Dodgers No. 9 prospect, started for Great Lakes and pitched five solid innings, holding the TinCaps to one run on four hits, while striking out four and walking two. Windle took his first loss of the season.

"Tom did a good job tonight," Shines said. "He's been better, but he did enough to keep us in the game for as long as he did. I liked what I saw from him."

Robert Ramirez, who went 2-for-5, tripled to right field in the seventh to drive in Fort Wayne cleanup hitter Daniel Pigott, who was 2-for-4, for the TinCaps second run of the game. Ramirez scored Fort Wayne's second run of the frame, coming home after an error by Loons shortstop Brandon Trinkwon extended the inning.

Cincinnati Reds No. 20 prospect Ismael Guillon (7-8) started for the TinCaps and pitched a gem, holding Great Lakes scoreless on one hit over six innings to pick up the win. Guillon did not give up a hit until the sixth inning when Loons nine-hitter Webster Rivas singled to left field. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound lefty struck out nine and walked one.

Fort Wayne sealed the game with five runs in the top of the ninth inning off Great Lakes reliever Crayton Bare. The TinCaps used four singles, a hit batsman and two Loons throwing errors to score the five runs.

The TinCaps bullpen got one scoreless inning of relief from three different pitchers: Jesus Adames, Werleen Taveras and Alejandro Chacin. None of the three gave up a hit and Chacin struck out the side in the ninth to finish the game for the TinCaps.

Loons reliever Ralston Cash gave the Loons two innings of scoreless relief, including two strikeouts. Sammy Diaz and Jon Matthews each added multi-hit games for the TinCaps.

Great Lakes remains 1 1/2 games behind the Bowling Green Hot Rods (79-56, 41-26). Bowling Green lost at the South Bend Silver Hawks on Friday night, 9-2.

The Loons start their last series of the regular season Saturday at the Fort Wayne TinCaps (70-66, 27-40). Dodgers No. 20 prospect Jonathan Martinez (2-4, 3.71 ERA) is slated to start for Great Lakes. Fort Wayne is expected to start the San Diego Padres No. 1 prospect, Max Fried (6-6, 3.55), a 6-foot-4, 185-pound left-hander. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The game will be aired live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
