
Captains Fall to Lugnuts 8-5

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Carlos Ramirez hit a solo homerun in the top of the ninth inning, and the Lugnuts defeated the Captains by a final of 8-5. The Lugnuts took two out of three from the Captains and beat the Captains in the season series 12 games to nine. The game on Friday was the final at Classic Park for the 2013 season.
Lansing scored two runs in the top of second inning to give the Lugnuts the lead. Chris Hawkins, Carlos Ramirez, and Jason Leblebijian all singled and the score was 1-0. A sacrifice fly by Dalton Pompey made the score 2-0 Lansing after two innings.
Lake County answered in the bottom of the second inning. With two runners on base and no one out, Leonardo Castillo doubled home two and the score was tied. Yhoxian Medina walked and LeVon Washington hit a two run double and the Captains led the game 4-2.
Lansing tied the ballgame in the top of the fourth inning, Santiago Nessy doubled and scored on a single from Kellen Sweeney and the score was 4-3. It was tied at 4-4 when Dalton Pompey lifted his second Sac Fly this time to center field and the game was tied after four.
Lansing scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning and led the Captains by a final of 7-4. The fifth inning was the difference in the ballgame. Lake County walked in a run, and allowed three hits during the rally.
Lake County scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Leo Castillo singled to begin the inning. Yhoxian Medina singled and a throwing error allowed Castillo to move to third. LeVon Washington grounded out and Castillo scored and the score was 7-5.
RHP Luis Morel (5-6) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Morel pitched four and two thirds innings, and allowed 12 hits, seven earned runs, three walks and he fanned two. Luis Dejesus entered in relief and pitched the final four and one third innings, Dejesus allowed five hits, one earned run, four walks, and one strikeout.
RHP Javier Avendano (8-6) started the game for the Lugnuts and did not get the decision. Avendano pitched four innings, and allowed four hits, four unearned runs, four walks and five strikeouts. Griffin Murphy (1-3) earned the win. Murphy pitched two innings, one hit, one unearned run, three walks and two strikeouts. Ian Kadish pitched two innings of relief and did not allow a run. Arik Sikula earned his 19th save of the season after pitching the ninth inning.
The Captains will travel to Bowling Green, KY for three games of the season. On Saturday, Lake County will start LHP Luis Lugo (0-0, 2.89) and Bowling Green will counter with LHP Kevin Brandt (2-0, 1.42). First pitch is at 8:05 PM from Bowling Green Ballpark.
